Dr. Guo received his bachelor's degree in crop science from the Agricultural University of Hebei in Baoding, China, and his master's degree in plant, soil, and environmental science from West Texas A&M University. His doctorate degree in agronomy is from Texas Tech. He is a member of the American Society of Agronomy, Soil Science Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Prior to joining the Tech faculty, Dr. Guo worked as a global environmental modeling scientist with Monsanto in St. Louis. He also worked as a precision agriculture scientist with South Plains Precision Ag in Plainview, and an instructor at Texas Tech and Handan Agricultural College in Handan, China.

Recent honors for Dr. Guo include Monsanto's Breeding Excellence Award (2016); Monsanto's Breeding Excellence Award (2015); Monsanto technology recognition for initiating a UAV plant phenotyping program (2015); and a Monsanto Above and Beyond Award (2014).

Research Interests

Dr. Guo is interested in continuing his research efforts in precision agriculture, environmental sciences, remote sensing in agriculture, especially UAV application in precision plant phenotyping. One of his primary goals at Tech is to establish interdisciplinary research and teaching programs that leverage state-of-the-art technologies to improve agricultural production with limited resources, especially water.
