Exhale: Call for Art

Exhibit Description

Texas Tech's Risk Intervention and Safety Education, RISE department is sending out a call for original visual and performance art for an event and exhibit for those affected by sexual violence or in support of survivors. For more information about the event, please visit our Exhale event page.

This event and exhibit will be held on April 7th and 12th, 2023.

Exhale at First Friday Art Trail: Friday, April 7th, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:30 P.M. at CASP Studio B.

Exhale at Texas Tech: Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Black Cultural Center.

Participants are encouraged to submit any physical type of expressive artwork that depicts their journey and/or experience with sexual assault or expressing their support for survivors. Please note that this exhibition is open to all Lubbock community members. Art is not required to be themed around surviving sexual assault, but you are encouraged to express your feelings and support.

Deadlines

Deadline for submissions is March 24th, 2023. Visual works must be fully completed, abide by Artwork Guidelines, and ready for display by March 30th. Your work is to arrive at the RISE office in Drane Hall, Room 245 by 4PM on March 30th and will remain under the supervision of RISE until April 14th. You must pick up your artwork from the RISE office the week of April 17th - 21st.

Artwork Guidelines

Artwork must be labeled on the back with artist name and title of work.

All artwork submitted on paper must be framed, and artwork on other materials (e.g., canvas, wood, metal, etc.) must consist of a method of display (e.g., easel, wire hook, etc.). 

Artwork should be sufficiently packaged in a reusable container (box) upon drop-off. Packaging should be labeled with artist's name and number of pieces.

Artworks can be drawings (digital/physical), paintings, photography, printmaking, songs, poetry, or any physical art piece that can be displayed/hung on a wall.

*Please note that your submissions must be ready to hang when being delivered to the RISE office. This includes but is not limited to being printed out, on a canvas, in a frame, etc.

Please submit the following form for each type of artwork. Do not include multiple pieces within the same submission. Those who submit are required to read and agree to the Exhale Art Agreement Contract upon submission.
