Rebecca understands that STEM is more than an acronym- it is the practice of solving problems by a network of diverse individuals with broad ranges of talent who study of the universe's interconnections to create opportunity and to generate a positive impact. Since joining the Dallas College El Centro STEM Center team in 2014, Rebecca has had the great fortune of witnessing students from all walks of life find unity and camaraderie through shared interest learning and solving problems through the application of math and science…and language, art, law, social studies, etc. In the STEM Center, Rebecca served in various capacities performing outreach, managing tutoring services, coordinating experiential learning activities, providing professional developing opportunities, and offering specialized support for the holistic needs of El Centro's STEM students. In 2016 she acquired the role of Project Director for El Centro's 2011 HSI-STEM Grant, and again served as Project Director for the 2016 HSI-STEM Grant beginning in 2019. Meanwhile, she also supported the management of the Perkins, T-STEM, and LSAMP Pre-Alliance grants. Rebecca's own STEM Education pathway includes a B.A. in Biochemistry from Austin College and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. When not working with students or writing grant reports at El Centro, Rebecca can usually be found building something with her husband and two young sons.
