Jon Thompson, Member
Dr. Jon Thompson joined the faculty at Texas Tech in 2008, following primarily teaching professorships at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and Tulane University. Both Thompson's M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Florida. Thompson has 20 years of experience in academic research, with a special focus on development of methods and sensors related to detection of air pollution. In addition to laboratory research, Thompson has over 15 years of classroom experience teaching STEM students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Thompson has also contributed to the chemical education literature by being a regular contributor to the Journal of Chemical Education, and The Chemical Educator over the past 10 years. He has strong interest in development of “hands-on” laboratory exercises in which students actively collect data on computers or smartphones using inexpensive sensors and software. Prof. Thompson hopes to collaborate with other STEM-CORE faculty to advance science instruction on our campus and beyond.
