Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What are the benefits of attending Red Raider Camp?

Red Raider Camp provides you with the opportunity to start building friendships and transitioning to life as a Red Raider. This student-run and student-led camp is a great way to start your career as a Red Raider.

What is the difference between Red Raider Orientation (RRO) and Red Raider Camp (RRC)?

Red Raider Orientation deals with the fundamental necessities of college (i.e., housing, meal plans, parking, registering for classes, etc.) It is also REQUIRED for all incoming students.

Red Raider Camp is your NEXT STEP that is more focused on introducing new students to the campus culture and giving them a head start on their college career. At RRC you don't just hear about all the great traditions at Texas Tech, you actually experience them.

Registration

Can Gateway students attend Red Raider Camp?

Red Raider Camp is for admitted students. Once you are admitted to Texas Tech University for the fall semester, you are eligible to attend Red Raider Camp.

I don't see a particular camp session when I try to register.

Each session only has a limited number of spots and are available on a first-come first-serve basis.  If you do not see a camp session when you log in to register, then that camp session is filled to capacity already.

When will I receive confirmation that I am attending camp?

You will receive a registration confirmation email sent to your TTU e-mail account upon registration. Please note that you are not confirmed for camp until we receive your medical release form and your registration fee.

All confirmation and reminder emails about Red Raider Camp will be sent to your TTU email address. Check your TTU email by logging in with your email address and eRaider password.

If you did not receive a confirmation email to your TTU email account, please send an email to redraidercamp@ttu.edu requesting the confirmation be resent.

How much does Red Raider Camp cost? Are there additional fees other than the registration fee?

The registration fee is $100, and covers your lodging, meals, activities, and one camp T-shirt.

*Please note:

After July 15, NO refunds will be given, even if you register after July 15.

Students are responsible for transportation to and from Red Raider Camp.

What if I decide to cancel?

Students who are no longer interested in attending Red Raider Camp may cancel their registrations and receive a full refund. Fill out the Cancellation Form and email it to us at redraidercamp@ttu.edu to begin this process.

If you are unable to attend, we ask that you cancel your reservation to open the spot for someone else.

We ask that you complete this by July 15.

  • Refunds will be applied to the same method of payment as the original charge and will be processed 7-10 days after you have been notified of the refund.
  • Campers that have already registered for RRC and paid the $225 fee will be automatically refunded the $125 difference and do not need to send in a cancellation form unless they no longer plan to attend.
After July 15, NO refunds will be given, even if you register after July 15.

What to Expect / Getting Ready

Where do I go to check-in?

Red Raider Camp 2020 will take place on the Texas Tech campus. Check-in and schedule information will be distributed via email to your Texas Tech email address.

Can I come a day early?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide housing accommodations for early arrival to Red Raider Camp. We require students to move into their Fall housing prior to their scheduled RRC.

What do the color groups mean?

Red Raider Campers are divided into five color groups (blue, green, orange, purple and yellow) and will be led by 2 color group counselors.

During camp, each color group will spend time getting to know each other through Camp Times and Small Group Activities and will compete against the other color groups! If you have any gear (hats, shoes, shorts, etc.) to show off your color group spirit, be sure to bring it with you to camp.

One week prior to your scheduled Red Raider Camp session, you will receive a reminder email with final important information to help you prepare for camp, including your color group assignment.

These color groups help provide opportunities to make friends and build a support network with the small group and Red Raider Camp Counselors.

I didn't get my reminder email.

All confirmation and reminder emails about Red Raider Orientation will be sent to your TTU email address. Check your email at outlook.com by logging in with your eRaider username and password.

If you did not receive a confirmation email to your TTU email account, please send an email to redraidercamp@ttu.edu requesting the confirmation be resent.

What should I pack to wear?

During Red Raider Camp, campers will wear a white t-shirt provided to you during check-in. You'll just need to bring some comfortable, casual clothing to wear with your awesome new shirt.

We recommend you also wear closed-toe shoes for outdoor activities, time at the Student Rec Center, and a scavenger hunt!

Don't forget your face mask! Participants will be required to abide by the TTU facial covering policy during camp activities. We will provide an RRC bandana or campers may choose to wear one of their own.

And make sure to check out the complete list of packing recommendations.
