August New Faculty Orientation

A note for August 2021 New Faculty…

The TLPDC and representatives from the Provost's Office are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and are considering whether or not alternatives for a virtual orientation will need to be provided. We will keep you apprised of any updates and appreciate your patience at this time.

Welcome to Texas Tech University! The Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development Center is pleased to host Texas Tech University's New Faculty Orientation. This process is designed to help you make a smooth transition into your faculty role, and there are two important components of this program.

On Wednesday, August 18th & Thursday, August 19th, 2021 at Museum of Texas Tech University, the TLPDC in conjunction with the Office of the Provost will host New Faculty Orientation. Please note that both days are mandatory for all new faculty, including tenure and non-tenure track faculty.

The first component of New Faculty Orientation is held on Wednesday, August 18th. On this afternoon, the Teaching Academy and the TLPDC will host a workshop titled, "Teaching Foundations for New Faculty." The Teaching Academy is an honorary society of selected Texas Tech faculty members. This important workshop will include a master teacher demonstration and practical discussions about teaching and is a wonderful introduction to the teaching culture at Texas Tech University. This session is supported by our administration and all deans and chairs.

The second component is the 2021 New Faculty Orientation which will be held on Thursday, August 19th. This orientation represents a very important opportunity for you to become acquainted with information about the university and to be welcomed by TTU System and university leaders. New Faculty Benefits/Insurance information will also be presented at this session. Department chairs and deans will be invited to join us for lunch on Thursday.

The schedule for August 2021 is currently under development and we will share updates as soon as more information becomes available. Below is the schedule from August 2020, where we offered a hybrid of online and in-person sessions.
