TSI Attendance Support

TSI Syllabus Statement

As stated in the TSI course syllabus:

Attendance in the TSI developmental course is MANDATORY. Students are allowed a limited number of unexcused absences in the course for the semester. Absences are given at the discretion of the instructor and TSI office. Students may be marked absent for the following reasons:

-Failing to attend class or "sign in" for the class

-Arriving to class more than 10 minutes late

-Leaving class more than 10 minutes early

-Failing to participate (which includes, but is not limited to: texting, sleeping in class, listening to music, not completing assignments, etc.)

All absences are reported to the TSI office. Communication regarding absences will come from the TSI office when students receive their 3rd, 5th, and 6th absence in the course. All communication will be sent to the students Texas Tech email address.

If a student has documentation for an absence (doctor's note, excusal note from a university organization, etc.), the student should send the documentation to the TSI office at tsi@ttu.edu. An advisor will follow-up with the student regarding the documentation. Please note that providing documentation does NOT guarantee an absence be excused. All questions regarding documentation and excused absences should be directed to the TSI office at tsi@ttu.edu or at 806-742-3242.

Non-compliance with the rules of attendance will result in a student being at risk of receiving a Developmental F in the TSI course. Students may appeal absences by submitting the TSI Appeal application to the TSI office in Drane Hall room 217 within five (5) business days of exceeding allotted absences. Information regarding the appeal application will be sent to the student's Texas Tech email address no later than the day following the 6th absence.

Unexcused Absences

Any absence that is not due to a University sponsored event, medical, or family emergency, or other noted event, will be considered unexcused. This includes, but is not limited to: sleeping past your alarm, missing the bus, techinal difficulties, arriving late, etc. Your TSI instructor may count you absent at their discretion without immediately informing you.

If you are marked absent and you believe you should be able to have it excused, please email documentation of your absence to the TSI office at tsi@ttu.edu.

If you were marked absent and believe it was a mistake due to being present for the full class, you will be encouraged to contact your instructor immediately. Contacting your instructor does NOT guarantee your absence will be excused.

Absence Excusal Notes

If you are absent for any reason that provides you with an excusal note, it will be your responsibility to contact the TSI Office within five (5) business days of the absence. Documentation must be submitted via email to the TSI Office at tsi@ttu.edu. PDF attachments are prefered for documentation. Providing excusal documentation does NOT guarantee your absence will be excused.
