Description:
Teaches about explorers such as Pierre Charles L'Enfant, Christopher Columbus, Rene Auguste Chouteau, and others who created new communities. Leads into a study of government, including its purpose; structure of local, state, and national government; democratic principles and processes; patriotic identity; and the importance of civic responsibility. Also teaches climate, landforms, and natural resources. Students learn to use scale, compass rose, grid, and symbols to locate places on maps and globes.
