Texas Tech University

Red Raider Orientation (RRO)

Welcome to University Studies!

Texas Tech University's Bachelor of Arts in University Studies and Bachelor of Science in University Studies are customizable interdisciplinary degree programs. There is no one-size-fits-all here. BUS students have unique careers in mind and need a program of study that allows them the flexibility in choosing three distinct areas of study from any of Texas Tech's academic colleges. Only a major in University Studies will allow students to fully explore and integrate three customizable areas of study.

RRO Process

Texas Tech's RRO is made up of multiple parts:

1. Sign up for RRO

Learn more about registering for orientation

2. Visit our Web Modules

These web orientation modules cover everything from Financial Aid to Campus Life and must be completed before your scheduled RRO Advising & Class Registration session.

3. Schedule a Pre-RRO Advising Appointment

During your scheduled RRO session, you will meet with your advisor to discuss your academic goals and class schedule, and learn how to register for classes. This is when you will meet with your BUS Advisor. If you have any questions in the meantime, check out our FAQ and resource links on this page. To reschedule either a virtual or face-to-face Pre-RRO Advising appointment or email our universitystudies@ttu.edu

4. Attend your Face-to-Face RRO Session

While at RRO, you will get the chance to meet new students, get advice from current students, meet with an advisor, register for classes, learn new Texas Tech traditions, and have FUN!

5. Get Registered for Classes!

During your RRO session, you will be able to register for classes.

FAQS

I am transferring to Texas Tech. I've registered for RRO, but where can I find more information?

Welcome to your new home in University Studies! The Red Raider Orientation office has an incoming student homepage that gives a sample itinerary for RRO and additional information.

I am a parent of an admitted student. Where do I find more information?

We're excited to have your student join us and we understand that you might have concerns, or want to get involved. Make sure you visit this RRO homepage for TTU Parents and Family Members and connect with the Texas Tech Office of Parent and Family Relations and the Texas Tech Parents Association

How do I check or change my major?

Log into Raider Connect to check or change your major, register for RRO, and more. Visit this student engagement page for more information about changing your major.

What do I need to do before I meet with my Advisor?

Visit the Before you Arrive webpage hosted by Texas Tech for more information, and make sure to check your Admitted Student Tasklist for a personalized list of everything you need to know, and how to get it all done! Also, don't forget to log into your new TTU email (aka TechMail) account - you might have an email or two from us!

What are registration holds and how do I get them removed?

Registration Hold(s) indicate a requirement that has not yet been completed by the student, which must be addressed to remove the holds in order to register for classes. You can view your holds when you log into the RRO registration system, and take care of any holds through your Admitted Student Tasklist to your Red Raider Orientation Advising and Registration session.

How will I meet with my advisor for RRO?

You will meet with your advisor using our virtual Blackboard Collaborate Ultra System. This link will be provided to you once you complete the University Studies online modules.

I've met with my advisor but still have questions...

That's okay! We would love to help. Check our Advising Homepage to find contact information for your advisor. If you're not sure who to contact, just email our office at universitystudies@ttu.edu and we will get you pointed in the right direction.
