About Me

Blaine Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Food Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine. He grew up on a farm in Southwest Iowa and graduated Iowa State University with both his undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. He also holds a Master's of Science with a focus in ruminant nutrition from Oklahoma State University. After practicing veterinary medicine for three years in rural medicine, he returned to Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine to complete a PhD with a focus in epidemiology studying heart disease and bovine respiratory disease in feedlot cattle. Blaine moved to the panhandle and joined the faculty at the School of Veterinary Medicine in January 2023 following the completion of his PhD.

Instruction

Blaine's focus is on food animal medicine, evidence-based medicine, and beef nutrition.

Research

His research interests involve the application of precision agriculture and epidemiology in feedlot medicine as it pertains to improving health and profitability for feedlot producers.

Service

Blaine is a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and Academy of Veterinary Consultants.
