About Me

David M. Dutton is a Professor of Large Animal Surgery at Texas Tech University, School of Veterinary Medicine. He grew up in the agricultural industry in west Texas and southern New Mexico and continues to be involved in ranching, raising show cattle and wildlife management. He was the owner of an equine practice for 20 years focused on equine surgery, lameness and sports medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Instruction

His teaching focuses on veterinary surgical principles, large animal surgery, and clinical surgical instruction in equine practices.

Research

Previous areas of research involved developmental orthopedic disease in foals such as angular limb deformities, incomplete ossification of tarsal bones, and suprascapular nerve injuries in horses. Currently his focus has been developing and evaluating clinical applications of equine amniotic based allografts and amniotic derived stem cells for treatment of several equine medical conditions.

Service

Dr. Dutton has served as a continuing education speaker for local, state, and national veterinary meetings over his career. He has served on several committees and is a founding member of the Texas Equine Veterinary Association. He is also a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He is also a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Farm Bureau, and Texas Wildlife Association.
