Associate Professor of Equine Surgery

About Me

James Brown graduated in 1998 from Melbourne University in Australia. He worked in private equine practice until starting his residency in equine theriogenology at UC Davis in 2004. He also completed his equine surgery residency at Virginia Tech and joined the faculty in 2010. He remained there until joining Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine in August 2022. He has diplomate status in both theriogenologists (ACT) and surgery (ACVS).

Instruction

James teaches veterinary students the aspects of general surgery as well as surgery specific to equine. He instructs students in dentistry and assists with the student chapter of American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

Research

James interests include; sinus surgery, dental pathology, colic, fracture repair, and creation of 3D teaching models from CT cadaver studies.

Service

James performs elective surgeries at local equine practice and consults on complex sinus and dental surgery cases. He is a member of the program credentialing committee for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS).
