Pregnancy Statement

The potential for human injury always exists in the practice of veterinary medicine, and it increases whenever an involved person is pregnant. The greatest potential pregnancy hazards may occur while working with animal patients, administration of abortifacients, or during necropsy of diseased patients. Such accidents may cause injury to the student and/or the unborn child. Additional potential hazards include, but are not limited to, exposure to toxic agents, hormones, infectious organisms, inhalation of anesthetics, radiation, and stress of physical exertion.

Any pregnant student, or student planning to become pregnant, should consult with their health care provider to determine what, if any, additional precautions are needed based on their individual situation. It is the responsibility of the student to communicate needs to the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) as soon as possible to determine if reasonable accommodations are necessary. In some cases, whereby reasonable accommodations may not be possible, an extended leave may be required.
