No other adjustments to the initial cohort should be made.
IPEDS Definition:
A measure of the rate at which students persist in their educational program at an institution, expressed as a percentage. For four-year institutions, this is the percentage of first-time bachelors (or equivalent) degree-seeking undergraduates from the previous fall who are again enrolled in the current fall. For all other institutions this is the percentage of first-time degree/certificate-seeking students from the previous fall who either re-enrolled or successfully completed their program by the current fall.
THECB Definition:
Persistance Rate (Retention Rate): The rate at which students persist in higher education, often as measured by the percentage of students who continue in higher education from one year to the succeeding year. To avoid confusion, this term is replacing the term "retention rate," which is used in the public sector as a reference to students who are held back and not promoted to the next grade.
TTU Definition:
The percent of an entering cohort (typically degree-seeking, full-time freshmen) who re-enroll at TTU in the succeeding fall term. Student retention cohorts may be defined in various ways, e.g., first-time full-time, first-time part-time, etc.; likewise, the retention rate may be calculated in different ways, e.g., from the freshman to sophomore year or from the first fall enrollment through graduation date.

Degrees Awarded

CDS Definition:
From July 1 to June 30. For each of the following discipline areas, provide the percentage of diplomas/certificates, associate, and bachelor’s degrees awarded. To determine the percentage, use majors, not headcount (e.g., students with one degree but a double major will be represented twice). Calculate the percentage from your institution’s IPEDS Completions by using the sum of 1st and 2nd majors for each CIP code as the numerator and the sum of the Grand Total by 1st Majors and the Grand Total by 2nd major as the denominator. If you prefer, you can compute the percentages using 1st majors only.
IPEDS Definition:
An award conferred by a college, university, or other postsecondary education institution as official recognition for the successful completion of a program of studies.
THECB Definition:
The credential granted a student for successful completion of a set curriculum such as a degree or certificate. (CBM009)

IPEDS Definition:
The rate required for disclosure and/or reporting purposes under Student Right-to-Know Act. This rate is calculated as the total number of completers within 150% of normal time divided by the revised adjusted cohort.
THECB Definition:
The percentage of a given college-entering cohort of degree-seeking students who graduate in a specific period of time, normally six years. For purposes of the "Baccalaureate Graduation Rates -- First-Time-Entering Undergraduates" and "Baccalaureate Graduation Rates -- First-Time-Entering Freshmen," the cohort consists of fall first-time, full-time undergraduates (or freshmen) plus summer first-time students who continue in the fall and are full-time in the fall. The summer students need not be full time in the summer. They are evaluated for full-time status based on their fall enrollment. For two-year institutions, it is the students who graduate with an associate degree or certificate within three years. For four-year institutions, it is the students who graduate with a baccalaureate degree within six years.
TTU Definition:
A calculation based on the number of students from a given cohort that have persisted and graduated from Texas Tech. Most often, the graduation rate is calculated based on the students’ degree completion within 150 percent or normal time to degree completion, or six years.

Student/Faculty Ratio

CDS Definition:
Report the Fall ratio of full-time equivalent students (full-time plus 1/3 part time) to full-time equivalent instructional faculty (full time plus 1/3 part time). In the ratio calculations, exclude both faculty and students in stand-alone graduate or professional programs such as medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, business, or public health in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students. Do not count undergraduate or graduate student teaching assistants as faculty.
IPEDS Definition:
The ratio of FTE students to FTE instructional staff i.e., students divided by staff. Students enrolled in "stand-alone" graduate or professional programs and instructional staff teaching in these programs are excluded from both full-time and part-time counts. "Stand-alone" graduate or professional programs are those programs such as medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, or public health, in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students (also referred to as "independent" programs). Each FTE value is equal to the number of full-time students/staff plus 1/3 the number of part-time students/staff.
THECB Definition:
Determined using a formula by dividing student FTE by faculty FTE of the same level.
TTU Definition:
The ratio of full-time equivalent students to full-time equivalent instructional faculty.

Faculty Definition (Who are included in the faculty headcount?)

THECB Definition:
The number of individual persons who are members of the faculty. Includes both part-time and full-time individuals. (CBM008)
TTU Definition:

Faculty

CDS Definition:
Faculty employed on a full-time basis for instruction. (including those with released time for research)
IPEDS Definition:
Persons identified by the institution as such and typically those whose initial assignments are made for the purpose of conducting instruction, research or public service as a principal activity (or activities). They may hold academic rank titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, lecturer or the equivalent of any of those academic ranks. Faculty may also include the chancellor/president, provost, vice provosts, deans, directors or the equivalent, as well as associate deans, assistant deans and executive officers of academic departments (chairpersons, heads or the equivalent) if their principal activity is instruction combined with research and/or public service. The designation as "faculty" is separate from the activities to which they may be currently assigned. For example, a newly appointed president of an institution may also be appointed as a faculty member. Graduate, instruction, and research assistants are not included in this category.
THECB Definition:
People hired to teach classes at an institution of higher education or whose specific assignments are for the purpose of conducting instruction, research, or public service as a principal activity (or activities) and who may hold academic rank titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, other faculty or the equivalent of any of these academic ranks. TTU Definition:
Professorial ranks are: Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor.

Tenured

THECB Definition:
Defined as the status of a personnel position, or a person occupying a position or occupation, with respect to permanence of the position. It is the academic tradition of guaranteeing continuing employment to faculty members who have demonstrated a high level of performance in the areas of research, teaching, and service. Tenure decisions are usually made for tenure track faculty in the fifth year of employment. The data summary of ’tenure’ on the CBM008 edit is based on this field, not including "Flexible Entry only" records. A similar tenure item is on the university class report, CBM004, since the faculty report is not reported early enough in the funding terms of an appropriation year to be used to determine how many undergraduate classes are taught by tenure or tenure-track faculty. Certain faculty reported with no tenure, but who have special qualifications, are identified on the class report so they may be used in the undergraduate SCH taught computation if approved by the legislature. The additional categories are faculty with a terminal degree in the discipline, faculty with appropriate professional certification, and faculty who have extensive and recognized accomplishment in a field. (Univ CBM004; Univ, HRI CBM008) degree/certificate-seeking.
TTU Definition:
Faculty who earn tenure are afforded the right to regular annual appointments subject to the conditions of employment and assignments in effect each year.
