Texas Tech at Waco has a variety of exceptional instructors who provide a conducive environment that compels and engages students. One such professor has been inducted into the exclusive Teaching Academy of Texas Tech for her passion for her students, her quality teaching and her dedication to her career.

Stephanie Lockwood, Ph.D., has been a professor for the Texas Tech biology program at Waco since 2014 and co-manages the Texas Integrative Diving and Ecological Studies Laboratory (TIDES). This program allows students to develop their own research projects and then continue their research abroad on the Mesoamerican Coral Reef in Roatan, Honduras.

The Teaching Academy was formed in 1997 and has inducted about 200 members. While it's an exclusive title to carry, many members can attest that the Teaching Academy further cultivates their passion for research and teaching. They say the academy provides them with reliable skills and tools gained from other successful professors within Texas Tech.

Lewis Snell, director for Texas Tech at Waco; and Sydney Cox, program manager, attended the awards ceremony, which was held on the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock.

"This was the first time for us to attend and our first faculty member from Waco to be inducted into the Teaching Academy," Snell said. "Lockwood has been a stable force in Waco. Not only has she proven herself in the classroom, but she has also helped recruit students and served as a mentor for our younger faculty. She has an engaging teaching style and interacts with her students in a way that is challenging yet positive. We are glad that Stephanie Lockwood joined us in Waco and is a big part of the success for our major in biology."

Texas Tech is proud to have Lockwood in Waco, providing students with foundational research skills that will last them a lifetime.
