Welcome to the Biopolymer Research Group at the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute,
Department of Plant and Soil Science, Texas Tech University. Our research objectives
are aimed at: (1) increasing the knowledge and understanding of cellulose and other
biopolymers structures,(2) exploring the links between biopolymer structure and physical
properties, (3) functionalizing surfaces such as textiles and bioplastics to impart
new properties, (4) transforming biomass to a new generation of bioproducts (films,
fibers, 3D printed materials, porous materials, etc.). This is fundamental to the
FBRI's longstanding mission to add value to natural fibers in Texas. Furthermore,
it is an integral part of a growing collaboration with plant geneticists and biotechnologists.
