Thank you for considering an application for this unique and innovative degree program. This is a decision that will have long-term impact on your professional career. We hope the following information is useful in your planning.
All qualified mid-career professionals in the broad field of study of agricultural education are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates from throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa, and Australia are eligible for admission consideration.
The next admission cycle will begin in February, 2009.
As you consider applying for admission to the degree program, your portfolio will include an electronic application to both to Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University.
In addition to the on-line application, you will be asked to submit an electronic portfolio that includes a cover page, letter of intent, personal statement, professional philosophy, complete curriculum vita, professional references, and samples of your work. A video conference interview is also part of the admission decision.
Criteria for admission include professional experience, your achievement on the last 60 hours of your undergraduate degree, grades earned during your master’s degree, and your current GRE score. The GRE general test that “measures critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study” <www.gre.org>. If you are an international student, you will also provide your TOEFL score.
First Steps
Although the current application process is closed, it is not too early to consider becoming a part of the fourth cohort. The Joint Ed.D in Agricultural Education provides an opportunity to earn your degree while you are earning a living. However, several adjustments will need to be made as you prepare for this experience.
- Discuss the commitment with others that will be affected by this long-term decision
- Compare this degree with others that may be available to you
- Ask yourself “is this the best time in my career to earn the doctoral degree?”
- Identify professional and personal activities that can be deleted, delegated or delayed during your immersion study
- Prepare for the GRE, including the writing portion, if you scores are five or more years old
- Prepare for the TOEFL if you are an international student.
- Request you be added to the active database and ask for updated information
- Make a commitment and plan to complete the application for Cohort `13—Go For It!
The Costs
Costs continue to change. In 2005-06, the tuition and fee costs were approximately $380 per semester hour for Texas residents ($24,320 projected for the 64 credit hour minimum program) and approximately $541 per semester hour for non-resident students ($34,624 projected for the 64 credit hour minimum program).
The goal of the joint graduate faculty is to provide access to a high quality doctoral degree using eLearning technologies at an affordable cost. Additional expenses are incurred for educational materials, access to broadband Internet connections, and necessary travel. Financial aid information is available at Texas Financial Aid Information Center. All costs are in US dollars. Fees are subject to change based on university policy.
