The Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBIR) at Texas Tech University received a $275,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation in January 2107. The grant will fund research on improved methods for dyeing cotton yarn the color indigo.

The technology currently used to dye the threads used in denim was developed shortly after World War I. With this grant, the FBIR is developing a foam dyeing method that is more sustainable and uses less water.
