More Info
I am a 30-year native of Lubbock, educator, writer, and advisor.
I began my educational career as an assistant to special education students, and then as an associate teacher in both forensics and biology. During this time, I wrote for Lubbock’s LucidPress, and attend Texas Tech toward a degree in anthropology.
My original intent was to become an archaeologist, leading to a yearlong stint in the laboratory at the Lubbock Lake Landmark, and certifications from the U.S. Department of the Interior for Managing Archaeological Collections and Field Interpretation for Archaeologists. Fate and a major back injury altered my plans.
I continued in education, and after certification continued teaching in a variety of subjects, centered on Business and Business Law. During this time I created and wrote statewide district training manuals on virtual instruction.
At Texas Tech, I discovered a new passion, -academic advising. After small beginnings, I have now advised thousands of incoming and current students here at Texas Tech.
I left briefly for an assignment with Communities in Schools. Though my commission ended after only several years, I still share the program founder’s vision that, “programs don’t change people, relationships do”.
My writing has been rejected personally by the President and CEO of Dark Horse comics, who told me that although it wasn't what he was looking for, I was talented, and to keep writing. I believed him and have since been published professionally by Antarctic Press.
"The characters are charming and the story is packed with heart and emotion. I loved
it."
