Texas Tech University

Marlee DeMots

Audiologist at Quail Creek Ear, Nose, & Throat Center

I applied for this position because I wanted go give back to the Texas Panhandle, where I am from, and provide audiological care to this area. I accepted the position because through the skills I learned at UCC I was able to determine this position was a fit for me. The most exciting part is getting to test pediatric patients hearing and work so closely with ENT physicians to provide the best possible care for our patients.

I had a great experience at the UCC. I used their services multiple times. I remember being very nervous the first time I went to the UCC, but that feeling went away quickly because they did such a great job making me feel comfortable there. I worked with Logan Winkelman to create my CV and apply for my externship. After that, I worked with Nicole Noble to learn how to overcome a bad work place and move on to the next. I also worked with Nicole on how to determine if a position is the right place for my personality and the questions to ask. I also reviewed typical interview questions and answers for those questions so I would be better prepared for my job interviews.

Due to these experiences at UCC, I felt more prepared for my interview. I feel like I am equipped with the necessary information to determine if a job placement is a fit for me, and also how to cope with negative feelings from a unhealthy job environment. I learned many tips, it is hard to narrow it down to just one. Something important that I learned was that it is okay to ask for help as you work on creating your career.
