Blackboard @ TTU: Preserve Your Work
Here’s a great tip for your students! When creating posts for Blackboard Discussions, Blogs, or Journals, write your post offline using MS Word or another text editor first. Then, when you are finished writing the post, copy/paste it into the Discussion, Blog, or Journal area. The reason? A Blackboard session can “time-out” when you are typing lengthy text or if you are interrupted by the phone or someone in the room while typing in the Blackboard HTML text editor. If the session times out before you submit your entry, you will lose the text and it will not be retrievable. Cut and paste will save the day!

There are a few things you can do to your word documents to help a person who is using a screen reader to better access the information in your document. Making sure each non-textual element (pictures, charts, graphs, clipart, etc.) has an alternative text is an important step in creating accessible word documents.
