Advanced Forage Science (PSS 5327, 3:2:2).

This is a graduate course that studies the interactions among several aspects of forage production and utilization by ruminant animals with emphasis on grazing. The course covers advanced chemical, physical, and botanical characteristics of forage plants, forage quality, mineral cycling, dynamics of grazing, intake and digestion, environmental
impacts of forage systems, economic aspects of grazing systems, and integrating grassland management into cropping systems. Emphasis is also placed on techniques of researching animal responses to forage availability and quality and deciding on stocking rates.
