CARS Advising Forums

Every interaction is an important contributor to student success, retention, and matriculation; among interactions, academic advising is critical to both short-term and long-term student success.

Texas Tech is fortunate to have a community of outstanding academic advisors. Each year the Committee for Advising, Retention, & Success (CARS), through its Academic Advising Workgroup, partners with the Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development Center (TLPDC) to provide a series of highly interactive workshops that address the needs and pressing concerns of advisors.

All Forum sessions will be held throughout the academic year at the TLPDC.  Specific times and dates will be coordinated with the presenters and published here when finalized. Proposals should be submitted using the form below.

For more information on the Advisors' Forum, please email the CARS Advising Workgroup.

Open Call for Proposals

For presentation in 2018, the Advising Forums again creates opportunities for advisors and other student success personnel to share their expertise and experience with other campus personnel.

Submissions are invited for 30 or 50-minute workshops appropriate for the purposes described above.  Your presentation could range from a session addressing the tangible practicalities of "How I Do My Job" or reviewing publications touting "Best Practices in Academic Advising" to a more data-driven, research-based presentation one might expect to see at a scholarly conference.

This open call for proposals will conclude on Monday, October 9, 2017.  Please don't delay to submit your ideas.  Your voice is an important addition to the conversation on advising excellence at Texas Tech, and we look forward to learning more about how you support student success through academic advising and/or its related efforts.
