What is the Vertical Plains Adventure Festival?
Vertical Plains is a weekend celebration of the world we live in with a little climbing thrown in. The weekend will commence with the Reel Rock Film Tour, which brings the best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences across the globe. The Vertical Plains Climbing Competition, West Texas' best competition for skilled and beginning rock climbers, will take place on Saturday.
The 2014 Vertical Plains Adventure Festival will be held on Friday February 7th and Saturday February 8th, 2014. Over the course of the years, we have had teams from as far away as Northern Iowa come to view the film festival, compete, and claim prizes. Returning and first-time participants will be sure to find that this is the best Vertical Plains yet! See you on the wall!
Reel Rock Film Tour
REEL ROCK VIII brings you stories from all around the world and throughout history. You will see the High Tensions of a clmb to conqour Mt. Everest, footage from the Stonemasters of the 1970's, legends of modern climbing such as The Sensei, and so much more! Come see the best in the world of climbing. Just sitting in your seat becomes an adventure!

Vertical Plains Climbing Competition
The annual Vertical Plains Climbing Competition is the biggest event hosted by the Outdoor Pursuits Center every year, and this year's 14th will be no different. It is a climbing competition that draws over 100 competitors from around the southwest and promotes camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the love of climbing. The competition is open to climbers of all levels, with three skill classes available: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. We encourage everyone, regardless of their experience, to join in the competition and have a great time!

Competition will be divided into two sessions, a morning and an afternoon session (see registration form below for details)

Late registration will be accepted up to the day of the competition. Regsitration is limited to 60 in the morning session and 60 in the afternoon session.
We are expecting it to be COLD! We will be changing sleeping arrangements to provide for indoor accommodations inside the Rec Center. All you need to bring is your sleeping bag and pad. If you arrive before Midnight on Friday, please stop by the ID station at the Rec Center for directions to the room. If you arrive after midnight on Friday, please call David Young at 806-773-0898 for entrance into the building. F\or more information, please call 806-742-2949.
Parking is controlled at Texas Tech University, and we don't want you to get a ticket! Click here for instructions on how to secure parking. Parking will be free after 5:30pm on Friday, February 7 in the R18 lot directly across from the front entrance of the Rec Center.
All climbers must return the completed waiver with their registration form. If under the age of 18 the waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Click here to download waiver
All Competitors will receive a Vertical Plains T-Shirt with registration.
Each participant will be entered to win prizes from a vast array of climbing and outdoor gear! Thank you to Mountain Hideaway, our main sponsor for the 2014 Vertical Plains Climbing Compeition. The top 3 climbers in each division will also receive a Vertical Plains 2014 commemerative clay mug, hand made by a Texas Tech artist.
Collegiate Climbing Series
Vertical Plains is the second competition in the 2014 Texas Region Collegiate Climbing Series, an intercollegiate competiition curcuit just for college students. Climbers who compete in the Collegiate Climbing Series will be competing against other university climbers for bragging rights and national recognition!
