Youth Summer Swim Team
The Tumbleweeds Swim Team, introduced in Fall 2024 at Texas Tech University Recreation, provides an entry point to competitive swimming. This recreational swim league focuses on personal growth, skill development, and fostering a love for the sport. Guided by UIL swim regulations, the team maintains a friendly competitive atmosphere, prioritizing confidence building, teamwork, and community. As a recreational league, the rules are less formal than those of a competitive league, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Tumbleweeds coaches are dedicated to helping swimmers forge new friendships while improving their strokes, endurance, and understanding of how a swim team operates.
The Tumbleweeds will hold three intrasquad meets this season. Intrasquad races are swim competitions held within a single team, where members race against each other instead of competing against other teams.
There will be a designated area at the meets for the swimmers to wait for their coaches until it is their turn to swim in an event. Swimmers MUST be in the designated area in order to swim. If a swimmer is not present when a coach is organizing heats, that swimmer will not be able to swim until the next event.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND: This is a recreational league, and the coaches organize heats and relays to give all swimmers a fair race. There is no staking (fastest swimmers together). Parents CANNOT reorganize swimmers. If a parent is caught doing this, both the parent and their child will be suspended from the team for one week.

- Week 1: Monday, May 18th – Wednesday, May 20th
7-8 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
9-10 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
11-12 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
13-18 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
- Week 2: Tuesday, May 26th – Thursday, May 28th
7-8 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
9-10 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
11-12 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
13-18 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
AFTERNOON PRACTICE
- Monday, June 1st – Thursday July 16th (Monday-Thursday)
7-8 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
9-10 Years old (5:00 pm - 5:50 pm)
11-12 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
13-18 Years old (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
* If a participant cannot attend a regular practice time, they cannot attend a lower age group practice.
2026 TUMBLEWEEDS MEET SCHEDULE
Warm-up begins at 4:00 pm each date for all ages.
- June 19th: Meet begins at 5:00 pm IM, Freestyle Relay, Backstroke, Freestyle
- July 10th: Meet begins at 5:00 pm Medley Relay, Butterfly, Breaststroke
- July 17th: Meet begins at 5:00 pm IM, Freestyle Relay, Backstroke, Freestyle, Medley Relay, Butterfly, Breaststroke
TEAM BANQUET AT THE OUTDOOR LEISURE POOL
Join us as we celebrate a fantastic season with our swimmers and their families!
- When: July 17th, 2026 @ 7:30 pm
- Where: Outdoor Leisure Pool at Texas Tech University Recreation
- Food: Pizza will be provided by the Tumbleweeds Coaches.
What to bring:
- Watch your email the week before the banquet for an approved list of items to bring.
Awards and Party Time:
- Each swimmer will receive a participation certificate and a medal to recognize their hard work and achievements this season.
- After the awards are handed out, it’s time to party!

WEEKLY UPDATES
Tumbleweeds coaching staff will send out weekly updates with important announcements, practice schedules and event details. If you are not receiving our weekly updates, please let one of the coaches know right away so we can resolve the issue. Please email us at recreation.aquatics@ttu.edu with any questions.
TEAM SWIMSUIT
Swim Outlet provides an online store for our team. Our swimsuits are available for individual purchase. It is not mandatory for you to buy a team suit. If you choose to not purchase a suit, we ask that you purchase one that is similar. The Tumbleweeds' colors are black and red.
TEAM PICTURES

Please wear team suits or suits similar to the team colors (red and/or black). T-shirts are not permitted in pictures! If you are not planning to buy individual pictures, please make an effort to come for the team picture. We want to remember everyone! There will be no practice on picture day.
