Texas Tech University has been chosen to lead an Educational Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) initiative for the Ethiopian Higher Education System, in collaboration with Oklahoma State University, The Ohio State University, and the Ohio State University Global One Health initiative Addis Ababa (GOHi) . The project is managed in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia and Ethiopia's Ministry of Education (MOE). The U.S. university partners work with the U.S. Embassy and MOE to prioritize and identify the needs of Ethiopian universities aligning with their national higher education priorities. The project, over a period of three years, aims to train 50 higher education administrators (presidents and vice presidents) from Ethiopia on ways to improve academic leadership, management, and governance.

The project is being led by Dr. Sukant Misra, Principal Investigator and Professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics (past Vice Provost for International Affairs at Texas Tech). The training is co-facilitated by collaborators from U.S. partner universities, experienced Ethiopian leaders who have demonstrated success in Ethiopian higher education, and guest experts.

As a a part of the program, participants assess their abilities to apply critical management skills to identify, understand and overcome the challenges of organizational change. They learn to identify developmental priorities and opportunities for innovation on campus; foster entrepreneurship and commercialization; and improve government relations.
