From Word to PDF

Once your document follows the Word document accessibility guidelines, it is important that exporting to a PDF format is done correctly in order to retain the accessibility elements.

How to Create an Accessible PDF

Below is one of the ways to create PDF documents from an accessible Word document. You will also see the one way you should avoid, "Print as PDF".

Save as PDF

To Save as a PDF, click on File.

Arrow pointing to File in Microsoft Word

Then select Save as Adobe PDF.

Arrow pointing to Save As Adobe PDF in the File menu of Microsoft Word

From here you will enter the name of your PDF and click Save.

DO NOT Print as PDF

Printing as a PDF turns your document into an image, rather than retaining the accessibility tags and information created in Word.
