Application Process

Although there is no application deadline, potential students are encouraged to submit all application materials at least two months prior to projected initial enrollment. There are two possible options for admission. These are different for current graduate students and non-current students.

Students currently in graduate programs at Texas Tech University, who want to add the graduate certification in Global Food Security to their current plan of study.

  • Download the Enrolled Students: Change or Add Program form
  • Complete student information and Current Major sections.
  • Under "Do you plan to complete your current program?" select "YES" and type your anticipated completion year and semester in the box. This is for your graduate degree, not the certificate.
  • Select option "B" under "Which program do you wish to ADD or to use to REPLACE your current program?"
  • In "Concentration", type "Global Food Security."
  • Type the year and semester you wish to start.
  • Print, sign, and date the form. Scan and email to the address at the bottom right or mail the original to the physical address at the bottom left.
  • Once you have been admitted to the certificate program, you must file a Graduate Certificate Program Plan of study.  Complete this form, and return to Dr. Brashears BEFORE enrollment in the second semester of coursework related to the certificate.  

Students not currently enrolled in graduate courses at Texas Tech University.

  • Complete the ApplyTexas application
    • When asked to select your major, you will choose Graduate Certificate Program.
    • When asked to indicate your major area of interest/specialty, type Global Food Security Certificate.
    • When asked what degree you will seek, choose Certification.
    • In the Custom Questions section of the application, be sure to choose Global Food Security from the list of available Graduate Certificate programs.
  • Complete additional admissions requirements as outlined by the Texas Tech University Graduate School
    • The initial application fee is $60.
    • Students who plan to pursue only the Global Food Security Graduate Certificate and do not plan to earn a master's or doctoral degree do not need to submit Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores to the university.
    • Applicants must have official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended sent to Texas Tech University Graduate School.
    • International students must also submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score to the Graduate School.
  • Check the Applications tab in your Raiderlink for notification of a change in your admissions status.
    • If you are accepted to the Graduate School and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, you will work with a Certificate Advisor to develop a degree plan.
  • Once you have been admitted to the certificate program, you must file a Graduate Certificate Program Plan of study. Complete this form, and return to Dr. Brashears BEFORE enrollment in the second semester of coursework related to the certificate.
