The TTU IT Division provides free Computer-Based Training (CBT) to the TTU community through a contract with Skillsoft. CBT is an online, self-paced, interactive training system for faculty, staff, and students. TTU hosts an inventory of over 4,000 courses covering a wide range of topics, such as basic-to-advanced technology skills, customer service, project management, human resources, and financial and general management skills.
A cyberbully is someone who uses a computer, cell phone, smartphone, or other technology to intentionally and repeatedly humiliate, harass, or threaten another person through emails, texts, social media postings, chat rooms, websites, and other forms of electronic communication.
Summer in West Texas has arrived! Summer is often a time for the TTU community to focus on preparation for the Fall Semester and professional development. In this issue, we provide information about the new SurveyMonkey resource and computer-based training services, all provided at no cost to TTU faculty and staff. As cyber criminals continue to target and exploit organizations, including higher education, we provide guidelines to protect personal and institutional data and information resources. In particular, the damage caused by recent ransomware incidents highlighted in local and national media reinforces the critical need for safe computing practices.
As we transition back to working from the office, we suggest you set aside time to reduce digital clutter and safely dispose of paper records containing confidential or sensitive institutional information that are no longer needed or need to be retained (see OP 10.10: Records Retention). Managing electronic and physical data wisely is critical to the protection of institutional information resources, including data. We encourage the TTU community to reduce unnecessary electronic files, sanitize devices, remove unnecessary social media pictures and personal information, and eliminate unneeded paper documents. We are all responsible for the privacy and security of personal and institutional data, and we encourage you to proactively monitor and maintain your devices. Stay vigilant and Go Tech!
