Short Courses in Engineering Ethics

The Murdough Center for Engineering Professionalism at Texas Tech University offers engineering ethics short courses. Successful completion of one of these short courses can result in anywhere from two, three, four, five, seven, or ten Professional Development Hours.

How to Enroll

The course fee may be paid by check or credit card. If paying by check, complete the enrollment form and mail the form (with your check payable to Texas Tech University) to:

If paying by credit card, complete and email the enrollment form to engineering.ethics@ttu.edu. We will provide information for paying the enrollment fee using our online payment site.

Steps to Complete the Course

Watch the assigned engineering ethics movie(s) online. A link is provided through the course website. If you do not have a high speed internet connection, we will send you a CD containing the movie(s) you need to watch. You will then respond to a set of questions regarding the movie(s). Written assignments are to be submitted by email to engineering.ethics@ttu.edu. Evaluation will be based on depth of thought, clarity and completeness. Upon successfully completing the course, the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion verifying the professional development hours earned. The Murdough Center allows six (6) months from date of enrollment to complete any of the courses listed on this web page.

PDH-2 Course

  • Course Fee: $100

  • Respond to a set of questions regarding this movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 1.5 hours answering these questions.)

PDH-3 Course

  • Course Fee: $150
  • Watch Incident at Morales (© 2005 - 36 minutes)
  • Respond to a set of questions regarding this movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 2.5 hours answering these questions.)

PDH-4 Course

  • Course Fee: $200
  • Watch Henry's Daughters (© 2010 - 32 minutes)
  • Respond to a set of questions regarding this movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 3.5 hours answering these questions.)

PDH-5 Course

  • Course Fee: $250
  • Watch Gilbane Gold and Incident at Morales (one hour)
  • Respond to a set of questions regarding each movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 4 hours answering these questions.)

PDH-7 Course

  • Course Fee: $350
  • Watch Incident at Morales and Henry's Daughters (one hour)
  • Respond to a set of questions regarding each movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 6 hours answering these questions.)

PDH-10 Course

  • Course Fee: $500
  • Watch Gilbane Gold, Incident at Morales, and Henry's Daughters (two hours)
  • Respond to a set of questions regarding each movie.
  • (You are expected to spend approximately 7 hours answering these questions.)
  • Then, describe and discuss an ethical issue that you have faced or know about (one hour).
