Flowering quince is a shrub that tolerates dry conditions and provides a show of flowers ranging from white to scarlet in the early Spring.  It can either be pruned to maintain a neat shape or allowed to develop into a more natural form.

Foliage: alternate, simple, deciduous, and serrated along the margins

Flower: perfect scarlet, white, red, or pink flowers appear before leaves

Fruit: apple shaped pome (2 to 2.5 inches long and wide)

Soil: best in slightly acidic soils

Care  
   
Maintenance: to increase flowering and maintain a more uniform look, may be pruned back to 6 inches each year (after flowering)
