Height: up to 6 feet tall
Foliage: alternate, simple, evergreen, and 1 - 2 inches long

lustrous dark green above with opaque, yellowish margins and plastic-like feel

usually with single spine on the tip, but leaves may have 3 or 4 spines on margins
Flower: dioecious, but may produce fruit without pollination (parthenocarpically)
Fruit: can have abundant bright red fruit throughout the Winter
Bark: smooth and gray

Water: drought-tolerant
Soil: tolerates poor soil conditions

Maintenance: can get scale and nitrogen deficiency
