Why should I take RRP 1100: RaiderReady?

RRP 1100: RaiderReady is designed to ensure your success in the first semester of your college career. Students who enroll and complete the course have earned higher GPAs, are more connected to Texas Tech, and are more likely to continue on to their second year of studies here at Texas Tech.

RaiderReady faculty members help you plan and prepare for your academic career and identify resources that will help your personal and social success. RaiderReady faculty come from various departments from across campus, allowing them to bring a unique perspective to the course. RaiderReady allows you to work with a faculty member in a small group setting, meet new friends, and set up a support network for your success here at Texas Tech.

What is the cost of an RRP course?

RRP courses are one-credit academic courses; therefore, there are tuition and fees associated with the course. These will amount to the same amount as any other one-hour academic course. Tuition and fees may vary from academic year to academic year.

Who teaches the class?

RaiderReady instructors are faculty of record in various departments and colleges from across the University; meaning, in addition to teaching a math, science, business, or law course they will also teach a RaiderReady section. The faculty have been selected for the course because they have shown a true passion for student success.

Will I earn a grade for RRP courses?

Yes, RaiderReady courses are graded, academic credit-earning courses. Students enrolled in the course will receive one hour of academic credit signified with the awarding of a grade of A, B, C, D, or F.

Is there a required textbook?

All sections of RRP 1100 use a required, common textbook. The RaiderReady textbook is an Open Educational Resource (OER) and is available digitally for FREE. A hard copy may be purchased at the campus bookstore and is linked with the course number RRP 1100. RRP 2110, 3100, and 4100 do not require a textbook at this time. Readings will be assigned.

I've heard the term “First-Year Student Seminar”, is this the same as RRP 1100?

Yes, RRP 1100 RaiderReady: First-Year Seminar is the official title of our first-year student seminar course here at Texas Tech. Across campus, the two terms are used interchangeably.

Who can answer my other questions about RRP 1100, RRP 2100, RRP 3100, or RRP 4100?

For students currently enrolled in RaiderReady, your faculty member should be able to answer any questions you may have.
