Personal Information

Dr. Chwan-Li (Leslie) Shen is an Associate Dean for Research, School of Medicine, Professor of Pathology, Joint Clinical Professor of Laboratory Sciences and Primary Care at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), and an Adjunct Professor of Nutritional Sciences at Texas Tech University. She is also the Founding Director of Center of Excellence for Integrative Health, TTUHSC. Dr. Shen has conducted research funded by National Institutes of Health, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), industries, and private foundations. Dr. Shen's translational research program has been funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA to study impacts of green tea on osteoporosis. Dr. Shen's recent USDA award is to evaluate the effect of ginger root extract on neuropathic pain via microbiome-gut-brain axis.  She has successfully translated her animal study results into human clinical trials.  Her research and presentations are well received by funding agencies, national scientific societies, and public media.  Dr. Shen has published over 118 peer-referred publications, 4 book chapters, and made 130+ national and international conference/invited talks in nutrition, exercise, and management of chronic diseases including musculoskeletal health, obesity, diabetes, and pain. Dr. Shen is a Fellow of Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women, a Fellow of NIH Clinical Research Management, a Fellow of the United State Bone and Joint Initiative. Dr. Shen has received Texas Tech System Chancellor's Council Distinguished Research Award.
