Personal Information
Grant Tinsley, Ph.D., joined the faculty in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management as an Assistant Professor in 2016 and was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Dr. Tinsley earned B.S. degrees in Physiology and Nutritional Sciences from Oklahoma State University, a M.S. degree in Biomedical Sciences from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Exercise Nutrition from Baylor University.
Dr. Tinsley is the Director of the Energy Balance & Body Composition Laboratory. The primary capabilities of this laboratory are advanced body composition assessment, metabolism testing, and administration of dietary supplementation and nutrition trials. Additional facilities for evaluating muscular performance and implementing exercise training programs are located in adjacent shared laboratories. The capabilities of the lab include: 4-compartment model body composition assessment, resting metabolism and substrate utilization assessments, advanced digital anthropometry, body fluid analysis, muscle thickness and quality assessments, subcutaneous fat estimation, and segmental body composition evaluation. Major technologies in the lab include: dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, air displacement plethysmography, 3-dimensional optical scanning, bioimpedance spectroscopy, single- and multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis, indirect calorimetry, and ultrasonography.
