Why Participate?

Prizes will be announced soon, but you’ll also gain valuable presentation experience showcasing your work to leaders in the sorghum field.

Eligibility

Current master’s or doctoral students attending the Global Sorghum Conference.

To participate, you’ll provide:

  • Your abstract
  • A paragraph of 200 words maximum explaining why you enjoy science and why you feel your research is important
  • Proof of conference registration

The deadline for submission is 15 June 2026.

You will be notified by 30 June 2026 if you are successful in participating in the 3MT.

Only 20 applicants will be selected to compete during the conference.

Rules

  • A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or 'movement' of any description is allowed and the slide is to be presented from the entire duration of the presentation
  • No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted
  • No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted
  • Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified
  • Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs)
  • Presentations are to commence from the stage
  • Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through movement or speech
  • The decision of the adjudicating panel is final
