Senate Bill 18

While most of the requirements in Senate Bill 18 are already met in existing Operating Policies, the bill requires that education code be amended in ways that impact TTU's OP 32:02: Faculty Non-reappointment, Dismissal, and Tenure Revocation. The proposed revisions, including a provision for summary dismissal (following due process) of a tenured faculty member who has engaged in “serious misconduct,” have been developed in collaboration with the Office of Faculty Success, the Office of General Counsel, and the Faculty Status & Welfare Committee of the Faculty Senate. Following existing procedures for review and approval, the proposed revisions to OP 32.02 were reviewed by the Faculty Senate on Monday, August 14th, and approved unanimously. The next step in the review of the proposed revisions is a vote among all tenured and tenure-track faculty, as these are the two categories of faculty positions affected by the proposed revisions. All tenured and tenure-track faculty will, later this week, receive an invitation to an attendance-optional, virtual information session to be held from 11:00-noon on Monday, August 21st. Tenured and tenure-track faculty will be provided with the opportunity to approve or reject the proposed revisions after the information session has concluded through electronic ballot. The electronic ballot will be emailed to all tenured and tenure-track faculty. Voting will remain open until 5:00 P.M. CST, August 24th.

Below are four documents for your to review prior to voting. First, "OP32.02 Current Policy Posted" is our current policy. Second, "OP32.02 Redlined" provides a version of the policy with all of the edits to the policy with short comments from the Faculty Status and Welfare committee for your review. Third, "OP32.02 Revised-Clean" is the clean version of the revised policy with no track changes. The final document is a copy of Senate Bill 18 with some highlights to illustrate the impetus for the changes.
