RESEARCH
Discipline-based Biology Education Research (DBER) is an interdisciplinary field that draws on theories from draws on lessons from social psychology, educational psychology, and STEM education fields to study and improve undergraduate and graduate biology education. DBER researchers work to advance theory and develop evidence-based knowledge and practices that improve teaching and learning in biology.
TEACHING
TTU Biology faculty integrate innovative teaching methods grounded in DBER research to help improve student motivation, engagement, equity, and retention. Several faculty focus on improving our laboratories to implement new techniques across several courses. Having high quality online courses is also a key strategy to ensure students are receiving the same quality education across all platforms. At the graduate level, developing high quality graduate teaching assistants through a Biology Pedagogy course is key for tomorrow's future faculty.
