Center for the Integration of STEM Education & Research (CISER)

Who We Are

The Center for the Integration of STEM Education & Research (CISER) has a 28 year history of supporting STEM teachers, their students, and their classrooms. CISER's mission is to increase student and teacher interest and knowledge in the STEM disciplines through activities such as traveling labs, STEM clubs, and teacher workshops. CISER aims to provide support for our local and surrounding area teachers with the conviction that developing teacher's pedagogical skills and content knowledge will increase student success in STEM classrooms. Additionally, we hope our hands-on activities promote a love for STEM topics amongst our students.

CISER funding has included numerous grants through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education Program and contributions and support from Texas Tech University. CISER welcomes the opportunity to work with area school districts and with departments at Texas Tech to facilitate the outreach component of various funded programs.

STEM Clubs

CISER STEM Clubs are in full swing at 13 local and surrounding campuses! Our TTU students visit K-12 campuses each week to bring hands-on and engaging STEM activities to the classrooms. CISER's goal is to spark an interest in the STEM disciplines amongst our club participants. Get to know our leaders and check out what activities the students have been up to this semester!

Traveling Labs

CISER's traveling lab program provides teachers with resources to supplement their STEM teaching with hands on activities. Each traveling lab is developed to support specific topics and offers curriculum and supplies for 1-2 weeks of TEKs specific activities. The labs are delivered free of charge to your classroom and picked up at the conclusion of your reservation period. Currently CISER houses 14 different traveling labs and continues to develop new labs.

Teacher Workshops

Prior to the release of a new traveling lab, CISER hosts a workshop where the curriculum and activities are explained and demonstrated. Professional development credit as well as permission to reserve and use the lab are granted by attending these workshops. CISER is also available to present workshops on math content knowledge, high school and middle school science, and classroom management.

Pre-Service Teacher Experience

CISER provides internships for undergraduate preservice teachers at Texas Tech who seek valuable experience prior to beginning their teaching career. These students help with the development of traveling labs and their curriculum, aid in the facilitation of STEM clubs, as well as assist during workshop presentations.
