Welcome to the Department of Psychological Sciences
Letter from Dr. Morgan, Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Psychological Sciences website. We hope you will find
everything you need on this website, but if not, we are just a phone call away. Of
course we always welcome visitors to the department as well.
This is an exciting time for our department. We are growing both in numbers and space. We are slowly growing our faculty in response to significant increases in both graduate and undergraduate programs. We currently have approximately 120 graduate students and approximately 900 undergraduate psychology majors. We anticipate having 32 tenured or tenure-line faculty by fall 2016. To support this growth we are expanding our building, and will have 6000 square feet of additional research space. We are very excited about this expansion, and there is an opportunity to be involved; if you would like to donate to this space, or seek naming rights for some of this space, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 806-834-7117.
Although we are experiencing significant growth, it remains our mission to excel in teaching, nationally recognized research, and outstanding service to the university, profession and community. We offer a BA in Psychology and work to provide students a variety of field and research experiences. We are sending more students to graduate school, law school, and medical school than ever before. Out doctoral programs in Clinical and Counseling Psychology remain accredited by the American Psychological Association. Our Experimental Psychology division includes programs in Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Human Factors. The Human Factors program is one of only 10 doctoral granting psychology programs accredited by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Our graduate programs are nationally recognized for producing strong psychologists, and our staff are exceptional. It is not by accident that we were recognized as the “most helpful department” by a recent reader’s choice poll in the Daily Toreador.
I think you’ll find that our faculty and students alike represent a broad range of expertise and interests. Dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the psychological sciences, our faculty members are outstanding teachers, researchers and professional leaders in psychology at the state, regional and national levels. We take great pride in creating an environment conducive to learning, growth and development for all of our students. Our undergraduates have an excellent record of achieving admission to graduate programs and our doctoral student alumni have succeeded as academicians, clinicians, researchers and in related positions in industry.
I hope you’ll find this website interesting, informative and easy to navigate. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or others with questions, comments or feedback. I’m very interested in what you have to say. There’s definitely a place for you in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Texas Tech University.
