Outreach is the highest priority of the Texas Tech Chess Program. Since 2007 the Chess Program has promoted chess in local schools. Under the direction of Outreach Coordinator Opal Gonzales, the chess program is able to send chess team members to volunteer at local schools and other community events. Thanks to the hard work of Chess Program students, there are chess classes conducted in a dozen local after-school programs, as well as scholastic tournaments open to K-12 students.
The Texas Tech Chess Program is always looking for opportunities to spread the benefits of chess by giving exhibitions, lessons, and lectures about chess throughout the community. Please contact us if you are holding an event and would like us to contribute.
The Texas Tech Chess Program offers two camps during the summer aiming to submerge students into a chess filled environment while having fun with peers. By offering lectures, lessons, tournaments, master exhibitions, and other fun activities kids learn about chess in a fun new way.
Don't let your children miss this very special opportunity to learn from the world's best!
All players regardless of skill level are welcome, ages 7-18. Students are grouped by skill level. All participants will receive top-level instruction, along with a Texas Tech Chess Camp T-shirt, and have lots of fun!
