Texas Tech University

Rodeo Team

Founded in 1923 as Texas Technological College, the rodeo team would compete with other groups in the area until the formation of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) in 1949. Texas Tech's first rodeo team in 1947 won the first Texas Intercollegiate Rodeo held at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. This first rodeo was such a success that the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) was soon formed.

Every year hundreds of colleges compete to see who has the best rodeo skills. The Texas Tech Rodeo Team is highly driven in cultivating the future leaders of tomorrow. With the hard work and dedication that is put in throughout the school year by our members, we are devoted to being the best and having fun while doing it. Some of our accomplishments have been 2018 2nd place women's team CNFR, 2017 6th place men's team CNFR, 2011 Eastern New Mexico women's champion team NIRA Rodeo, and 2008 1st place women's team Southwest Region.
