History
The Center for Agriscience Communications at Texas Tech was originally established in 1990 as the Center for Agricultural Technology Transfer. In 1993, the center received an endowment from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Education Fund to develop programs and materials aimed at enhancing agricultural literacy in the United States. In its beginning stages, the center focused on three main purposes:
1. To enhance agricultural literacy through research and development projects
2. To serve as a center for the gathering of information on agriculture
3. To serve as a means of providing. on-job-training and experience for students who are enrolled in the agricultural communications program
As Texas Tech's agricultural communications program has grown over the years, the center's mission has evolved to the growing needs of both the program and the public. To better serve our industry partners and the West Texas community, CATT is dedicated to providing the resources needed to champion the agricultural industry through strategic communication, outreach, and engagement.
