Whether you're looking to serve full-time or part-time after college, ROTC gives you the tools, training, and experience to succeed—not only in the military, but in any career you pursue.
ROTC Scholarship Opportunities
As a college student, you may still qualify for the Army ROTC National Scholarship, which offers:
- Full tuition and fees OR room and board (your choice)
- $420/month stipend (tax-free, up to 10 months per academic year)
- $1,200/year book allowance
Note: The scholarship does not cover aviation flight fees.
This scholarship is open to college students who meet the requirements—including GPA, physical fitness, and service commitment—and can be a game-changer in making your education affordable.

What You Need to Join & Contract
To contract into ROTC (and become scholarship eligible), you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be between 17 and 31 years old by the time you commission.
- Have a 2.5 GPA or higher when applying(semester, cumulative, and in Military Science courses)
- Pass the Army Fitness Test
- Meet medical and physical standards
- Agree to serve in the Active Duty Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve after graduation.
What Your Schedule Will Look Like at TTU ROTC
Our program is structured to challenge and develop you—while still fitting into your college life. Heres the typical weekly schedule for cadets:
- Physical Training (PT): Tuesday–Thursday, 6:00 – 7:00 a.m.
- Military Science Courses: In-person, times vary by year level (MSI-MSIV)
- Leadership Lab: Every Wednesday, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
ROTC courses must be taken in-person, and over 50% of your total course load must be on the Texas Tech campus to remain eligible.

National Scholarship
For High School junior and seniors
Two, Three, or Four Year Scholarship
Two/Three-year Advanced Designee (2/3-yrAD) scholarships are given to certain qualified applicants who do not receive a four-year scholarship. This scholarship provides the same incentives as the four-year scholarship but the benefits do not begin until the first day of the sophomore year.
Dedicated Army National Guard (DEDNG) Scholarship
Recipients receive full tuition or full room and board (flat rate of $10,000 per year), plus up to $1,200 for books, and are paid a monthly stipend of $420 for 10 months each year. In addition to a monthly allowance, they can also receive the drill pay of a sergeant, approximately $319 per month, when they participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).
Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship
The GRFD scholarship is mainly for students entering their junior year of college. GRFD recipients (dedicated or not) can choose either full tuition and fees or room and board (flat rate of $10,000 per year) and receive $1,200 for books. They are given an ROTC allowance for 10 months of the year at $420 per month. As a member of the Guard, they will also receive drill pay.
Minuteman Scholarship
Minuteman scholarships require a nomination letter as part of the scholarship packet and offer either full tuition and mandatory fees or a room and board flat rate of $10,000 per year, and cover up to 4 years/8 semesters of benefits. Minuteman scholarship awardees also receive an annual book allowance and a monthly stipend based on their academic year. Minuteman Scholarship Cadets must participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) while attending college which means they will also receive pay for attending a drill one weekend per month as well as a two week annual training in a local National Guard (ARNG) or Reserves (USAR) unit.

Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) encourages students to complete a degree and become a member of one of these organizations:
- Texas Army National Guard
- Texas Air National Guard
- Texas State Guard
- United States Coast Guard
- United States Merchant Marine
- Any branch of the armed services of the United States, as a commissioned officer
