About Heather

Heather Sherrill is passionate about creating opportunities that inspire students to see themselves as future engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers.

As Director of Outreach & Engagement for the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University, she leads programs that connect K–12 students and educators across West Texas and the Panhandle with hands-on experiences in engineering, robotics, and computer science.

Heather’s work focuses on building strong partnerships between schools, communities, industry leaders, and higher education to expand access to meaningful STEM opportunities. From robotics competitions and outreach programs to research internships and educator support, she is dedicated to helping students discover confidence, curiosity, and excitement in STEM fields.

Before joining Texas Tech, Heather spent over a decade serving students and educators as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, education specialist, and statewide professional development leader. She holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University and continues to advocate for innovative learning experiences that prepare students for the future.

About Garrett

Garrett Smith serves as the Robotics Coordinator for the College of Engineering Outreach & Engagement Program. In this role, Garrett focuses on supporting, providing, and developing outreach programs, events, and activities related to robotics and computer science.

Garrett is a proud Texas Tech and FIRST Robotics alumnus, participating on the Lubbock-Cooper High School FIRST Tech Challenge and the RoboRaiders FIRST Robotics Competition teams.

As part of his role, Garrett also serves as the Program Delivery Partner for FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge in the West & Panhandle Texas region.
