FIRST Alumni Scholarship
At Texas Tech University - Whitacre College of Engineering, we are proud supporters of the FIRST mission! As part of our commitment to support the next generation of engineers and innovators, we are providing a scholarship for incoming freshman who have graduated from a FIRST Tech Challenge and/or FIRST Robotics Competition team.
The scholarship will be $2,000 for the academic year, This includes $1,000 for the Fall and $1,000 for the Spring semester. The scholarship will be renewable for four years, for a total of $8,000 as long as the ongoing requirements specified below are met.
For the 2025 Fall Semester, we will be awarding four scholarships!
Scholarship materials must be submitted by February 1st, 2025.
Scholarship Entry Requirements:
- Must have graduated from a FIRST Robotics Competition orFIRST Tech Challenge team.
- Must be an incoming Freshman who has been accepted to Texas Tech University and enrolled full-time, at least 12 credit hours toward an engineering degree.
- Must submit a 500 - 1000 word essay on how being on a FIRST team has impacted your journey and prepared you in pursuing a major and career in
engineering.
- Include how you were involved in the community through your FIRST team.
- Must submit, at most, two letters of recommendation.
Scholarship Ongoing Requirements:
- Must maintain a 3.25 GPA or above.
- Must be an active volunteer for FIRST competitions and/or an active mentor for FIRST teams.
- Our office will help you get connected to these opportunities.
- We will have a method to log volunteer/mentorship hours for scholarship recipients.
- Must be an active in a STEM-based student organization of the student's choice.
- Must submit a thank you letter addressed to the Whitacre College of Engineering Outreach Program and the Engineering Opportunities Center at the end of every academic year while the scholarship is active.
Failure to meet these ongoing requirements will cause the scholarship to be revoked.
