Jeff Barrington Named Texas Tech AI Risk Officer

Texas Tech IT is pleased to announce that Jeff Barrington, Associate Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (AVP & CISO), has assumed an expanded leadership role as AVP, CISO, and AI Risk Officer, effective immediately. 

As AI technologies continue to evolve and play a growing role in higher education, the addition of the AI Risk Officer role reflects Texas Tech’s commitment to responsible innovation, ethical governance, and secure implementation of artificial intelligence systems across the university. 

In his expanded role, Barrington will help guide the ethical procurement, development, deployment, and use of AI technologies in alignment with the AI Code of Ethics established by Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 219, as well as the AI Risk Management Framework published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
