S. Y. Andalib

S. Y. Andalib is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Texas Tech University, where he leads the Landscape Architecture Technology, Translation, Intelligence, and Computational Environments (LATTICE) Lab. His research investigates how Extended Reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), and geospatial simulation can reshape landscape architecture education, participatory design, and the profession. He has authored peer-reviewed journal articles in Education Sciences and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and has presented his work at leading international and national conferences including CELA, ARCC, EDRA, and TNLA.

His scholarship and design innovation have been recognized through awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects (Texas Chapter Honor and Merit Awards), the Environmental Design Research Association (Best Student Design Poster), and the United Nations Development Programme (affordable housing masterplan award). He has also been honored with multiple academic scholarships and fellowships at Texas Tech, including the Distinguished Graduate Student Assistantship, the L. Edward Marvin Scholarship, and the Graduate Student Research Support Award.

In teaching, Andalib integrates site grading, stormwater management, landscape construction, and digital communication with immersive XR workflows, preparing students to engage critically with design’s social, ecological, and technological dimensions. His professional and entrepreneurial background spans participatory housing design in Bangladesh, collaborative research in outdoor learning environments, and integrating emerging technologies for garnering larger scale of shared vision.

Andalib earned his Ph.D. in Land-use Planning, Management, and Design and Master of Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University, and his Bachelor of Architecture from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Beyond work, he is a proud father, a lifelong learner, and an experimental painter.
