Height: 40 - 60 feet tall (can reach up to 100 feet tall)
Foliage: alternate, simple, and deciduous

6 to 7 lobes (occasionally 9) with fairly deep, "C"-shaped sinuses

glaborous (not hairy) with many bristles on blunt tips

may have good red fall color
Flower: monecioius 
Bloom Period: Spring
Fruit: up to 1” long stripped acorn on a short stalk

up to one third of acorn is covered by cap
Bark: light brown to gray

patches on trunk can be smooth when young

develops small ridges and furrows when older

Water: drought-tolerant
USDA Zone: zones 5 - 9
   
Additional Notes: excellent tree with few problems

buds are imbricate (overlap like shingles) and pointed

in the red oak group
