Fostering the Future
Support for students who are currently or formerly in foster care.
Foster Care Liaison
Meet Cindy Garza, a proud former foster youth from Lubbock and your dedicated Foster
Care Liaison. Cindy began her college journey at South Plains College before transferring
to Texas Tech, so she understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities that
come with navigating higher education as a former foster youth. As your primary contact
within Fostering the Future, she's passionate about helping you succeed by connecting
you with the resources, support, and community to thrive.
Resources
From financial and housing assistance to personal well-being and community connections, discover various resources available to support students with lived experience in foster care.
The Children's Home of Lubbock offers a Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program for foster youth aged 18-21 who have aged out of care. The program provides housing, support, and life skills to help participants successfully transition to independence.
Events
We host events to foster community, connection, and success for students with lived experience in foster care. These gatherings provide opportunities to engage with peers, access valuable resources, and build relationships with campus and community partners committed to supporting your journey.
Tuition & Fee Waiver
We encourage foster youth currently or formerly under the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and those adopted from DFPS to pursue a higher education at Texas Tech. If you have a history of foster care in Texas, you may qualify for a Tuition and Fee Waiver, helping you focus on your future without worrying about the cost.
Campus Champions
Campus Champions are university staff and faculty dedicated to supporting students with lived experience in foster care. Partnering with the Fostering the Future program, they provide direct assistance, advocate for your needs, and connect you with essential resources. Their commitment to your success means understanding your unique challenges and guiding you toward resources to help you thrive at Texas Tech and beyond.
